When you're in Tijuas, behave. Don't blow it.

In case you need the info, here it is, carnal.

If a friend was detained, start here. Tijuas keeps nobody's data: every card sends you to the official source. No authority charges to tell you whether someone is detained; be wary of calls asking for money to "get someone out."

Step 1 · Find a person

National Detention Registry (RND)

Mexico's official public lookup to check whether someone was detained and which authority is holding them. It asks for your details (name, phone and email) and the person's full name and date of birth, or their CURP.

Important: if no result appears, that does not mean the person isn't detained. Records can be incomplete or spelled differently. For a municipal arrest, also see the next card.

Minor offenses (not jail)

Municipal Detention Facility (EMI)

For people a municipal judge has sanctioned for breaking city rules (not crimes). It is part of the municipal Public Safety department (SSPCM).

Published location: Vía Rápida José Fimbres Moreno, Col. 20 de Noviembre. Department switchboard: +52 664 688 5541.

Police (municipal)

Tijuana Municipal Police (SSPCM)

Patrol, traffic and first response. Headquarters: Blvd. Cuauhtémoc Sur & Río Suchiate #2141, Col. Marrón · +52 664 688 5541. Zona Centro station: Av. G & Internacional · +52 664 688 3848.

State police also patrol Tijuana; in an emergency, call 911.

If it was a crime

Prosecutor's Office (Ministerio Público)

Someone detained for a crime is first placed before a prosecutor. State crimes: Tijuana Regional Prosecutor's Office (FGE BC), Calle Río Suchiate 10036 & Blvd. Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada, Col. Revolución · +52 664 104 2800 · guidance line +52 664 736 5307.

Prosecutors investigate and charge. They are not the municipal police or the prison. There's no online detainee search: use the RND, call the office or ask the assigned public defender.

If a judge orders it

State prisons (CESISPE)

With pretrial detention or a sentence, the person goes to a state facility. In the area: Tijuana Penitentiary Center and the El Hongo centers in the municipality of Tecate. Visitors need a visitor pass (ID, birth certificates, proof of relationship and address, 2 small photos).

Free

Public defenders

Anyone detained or under investigation has the right to a lawyer. If they don't have one, a public defender is assigned free of charge.

Lawyers

We'll list lawyers as they pass our review: a professional license verified in Mexico's National Registry of Professionals (SEP), an office with its own address and contact, and the areas they handle.

We'll never publish promises of release or outcomes, or anyone claiming connections with authorities. A Tijuas listing is not legal advice.
